Mother’s Ruin: A Cabaret About Gin

Created by Maeve Marsden, Libby Wood, AntheaWilliams, Jeremy Brennan and Elly Baxter (The Ginstress)

Directed by Anthea Williams

Starring Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood

Musical direction Jeremy Brennan

Equal parts historical and hysterical, lose yourself in the company of sailors, barmaids and bootleggers in this darkly comic cabaret. “Not only vocally sublime but a stroke of comedy genius” (TheatrePress), its critically acclaimed stars Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood return to the U.K for the third time in 2019, after playing to sold out crowds in 2017 and 2018.

A raucous journey through 18th Century London, a few New York speakeasies, the Australian bush and the jungles of Peru, discover a little more about your favourite drop, with this mixed up musical history lesson delivered with “a spot-on balance of larky humour, bolshy political consciousness, palpable passion for their subject and sheer joie de vivre” (The Scotsman).

With music originally performed by Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Martha Wainwright, Tom Waits, Sia, The Popes, Jessie J and more, Mother’s Ruinmoves from misery to vaudeville in a moment, intertwining excess and prohibition, history and (re)invention.

Included in your Gin Cabaret ticket price is the chance to WIN a pair of tickets to Cotswolds Distillery for a 90 minute tour and tasting session! Winners announced on the night.
