The Butterfly Farm
Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm was opened in 1985. It is housed in a large greenhouse, landscaped with waterfalls, ponds and a wide variety of tropical plants. Hundreds of exotic butterflies from all over the world fly within this area. Visitors can walk throughout and observe behaviour and life-cycles at first hand. Many of the species on display are bred in the Farm, giving visitors the opportunity to see caterpillars of all shapes and sizes.
Exotic insects such as beetles, praying mantids, stick insects and giant millipedes can be seen in our Insect City. On display in Arachnoland are scorpions and spiders, including the world's largest species, the Goliath Bird-eating Spider, and one of the most deadly, the Black Widow Spider.
The whole concept of the exhibition is to show live insects behaving as naturally as possible, rather than cases of dead specimens. Stratford Butterfly Farm is the largest and most comprehensive attraction of its type in Europe.
