Chedham's Yard

Chedhams Yard is a prize-winning heritage site. It has recently been sympathetically restored and retains the mood and atmosphere of the 19th century. It is open to the public every Saturday, from the end of April until the end of September. There are also two additional events in October and December for Halloween and Christmas.

Hidden away in Church Walk, Wellesbourne in Warwickshire (CV35 9TH)  the Yard was run by five generations of the Chedham family, the last of whom, Bill Chedham recently passed away. It includes both a blacksmith’s and a wheelwright’s workshop dating from the early 19th century.

The Yard has been restored with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and BBC Restoration, after it beat off strong competition, from churches, chapels and a gallery, to win the BBC Restoration Village television programme in 2006. It is crammed with tools, equipment and items made on site along with the materials to make them.

Each Saturday there is a different themed event at the Yard and demonstrations of Blacksmithing and Wood Turning, Free guided tours and films are available during your visit. The on site café provides light refreshments.

Entry to the Yard on a Saturday is free to everyone. There is a small charge for Group visits during the week, which are by prior arrangement.
